Graphic with this text10/1/2024 How Does Math Corps Work? • A trained Math Corps tutor meets 3-5 times per week with pairs of students in grades 4-8 who are just below gradelevel proficiency in math, based on their performance on the state accountability test. • Tutors deliver evidence-based interventions focused on improving conceptual understanding, computational proficiency, and word problem solving. • Tutors receive regular support from a staff member at their assigned school, called an Internal Coach. Once per month, the Internal Coach, Master Coach, and tutor meet to review each student’s data and determine if interventions need to be adjusted.

Ever wonder what strategies our tutors use to help students improve their reading? Today's Service Saturday highlights three methods we train all tutors in: phoneme blending, letter sound correspondence, and duet reading!

"what strategies are used? tutors are trained to deliver 10 research based supplemental reading interventions highlights include: • Phoneme Blending: The student builds the skill of blending individual phonemes (smallest individual units of sound of spoken language) into words. • Letter Sound Correspondence: The student builds the skill of associating the correct sounds with letters. • Duet Reading: The student builds fluency skills with modeling and practice "
Happy Service Saturday! Our tutors come from a variety of backgrounds with diverse experiences, but they all have some things in common. Check out more information on our tutors here: https://fs16.formsite.com/servetogrow/images/Position_Description_-_Reading_Tutor.pdf

"who are reading corps tutors: Reading Corps tutors have signed up for a year of national service as AmeriCorps members. • Reading Corps tutors are not employees of the school district, nor are they paraprofessionals. • In order to become a Reading Corps tutor, candidates must be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma, and be a Legal Permanent Resident or US Citizen. • Candidates do not need a background in education to apply—we train and coach each tutor in proven strategies to help students succeed. We simply look for individuals who are responsible, organized, motivated, and that can speak, read, and write English fluently. "
Students are heading back to school, and so are our tutors! We'll be highlighting tutors throughout the school year, and our first spotlight is here! Thank you for your work as an Early Learning Corps Tutor, Tia!

Tutor spotlight Tia Lewis: Early Learning Corps Tutor. Favorite Part of Tutoring My favorite part is seeing how much the children learn after a full school year of Early Learning Corps. Looking at the growth at the end of the year, there is nothing more rewarding for us as teachers and also the children! I Wish Everyone Knew Early Learning Corps is such a rewarding program. Just think about all the needs your children could be getting by implementing this into their daily school days! It's so fun seeing their growth, but the best part of all is that they have FUN too!
